Dräger in the UK
Dräger in the UK consists of two separate divisions, with the Medical Division with its Headquarter in Hemel Hempstead and the Safety Division in Blyth.
Draeger Safety UK Ltd.
Draeger Safety UK Ltd. is a wholly own subsidiary of Drägerwerk AG, Lübeck, Germany.
Draeger Limited (then known as Draeger Normalair) was formed in 1963 as an equal joint venture between Drägerwerk and Westland Aircraft. Its task was to sell Drägerwerk products and Normalair (Westlands) Breathing Apparatus in the UK. In 1965 the manufacture of Breathing Apparatus was transferred to Blyth. In 1974 the Westland 50% share in the Company was purchased by Drägerwerk. Throughout a series of changes in the 1970’s and the 1980’s, Dräger’s manufacturing facilities were reorganised resulting in a centralisation of Air Breathing Apparatus design and manufacture in Blyth. Furthermore there is another establishment in the UK in Plymouth. There specialists produce a flame detection system for Dräger.
In 2002 the company was renamed Draeger Safety UK Limited.
Today, nearly 400 employees work for Dräger Safety in Blyth and Plymouth in the following areas:
- Manufacture of all Dräger’s Compressed Air Breathing Apparatus and some of the fire and gas detection products
- R&D: Design and Improvement Dräger’s Compressed Air Breathing Apparatus.
- International marketing of Blyth manufactured product using the world-wide Dräger sales network and some direct international selling through Dräger agents.
- Sales, Marketing and Service in the UK of all Dräger Safety products and also for fire and gas detection in the Middle East.
Draeger Safety UK Ltd. accomplishes service and maintenance in an own repairs workshop, spare parts and equipment is stored in the own stock and is therefore short term available. It was accredited with ISO9001 approval in December 1992 and certified to ISO14001 from February 2002.
Draeger Medical UK Ltd.
Draeger Medical UK Ltd. is a wholly own subsidiary of Drägerwerk AG, Lübeck, Germany.
Draeger Medical Ltd., located in Hemel Hempstead England, was formed in 1968 to handle sales of medical equipment in the UK. In 1989 Draeger Limited acquired Draeger Medical Limited, which became the Medical Division. In 2002 Draeger Medical UK Ltd was created by demerging the medical division of Draeger Limited. Draeger Ltd. was rebranded Draeger Safety UK Ltd.
Draeger Medical UK Ltd. offers products, services and integrated CareArea™ Solutions throughout the patient care process – Emergency Care, Critical Care, Perinatal Care, Perioperative Care, Patient Monitoring & IT Solutions, Lifecycle Solutions and Architectural Systems. Dräger Medical UK’s goal is to provide solutions that support patient centred processes for high quality and effectiveness, which are also more cost effective.
Today, nearly 170 employees are responsible for Sales, Marketing and Service in the UK of all Dräger Medical products. It was accredited with ISO9001:2008 in 2005 and ISO13485:2003 in 2003.
Service and Maintenance can be operated in an own repairs workshop whereas the majority of Service is accomplished directly at the customer e.g. in hospitals. Problems are solved, where they appear.
