Gas analysts are trained as gas testers. They are specially trained to carry out Ex/Ox/Tox measurements in industrial plants. At the same time, they can serve as gas and fire guards because the latter's training forms the basic part of theirs.

- Training as respiratory protective device wearer (gas guard) with rescue duties as per Rules of the German Professional Associations (BGR 190) in accordance with the German Fire Brigade Regulations FwDV 7 (duration of training: 20 hours)
- Training as fire and safety guard in accordance with § 30 of the Regulations of the German Professional Associations (BGV D1) (duration of training: 8 hours)
- Training as gas tester in a special seminar for portable gas detection technology by Dräger Safety AG & Co. KGaA.
- Explosion and oxygen measurements
- Principles of detection
- Toxic measurements, e.g. with test gas tubes
- Reading and understanding of material data sheets
- Classification of hazardous substances
- Reading and understanding of ADR symbols and placards (hazard-warning diamonds)
